Loss and the Quest for Meaning: The Spiritual Arc of Tragic Loss

Embark on a soul-searching journey as we explore pathways to finding meaning in tragic loss.

Among the world's renown experts on grief recovery such as Elizabeth Kubler-Ross is Dr. Bob Neimeyer, psychologist, therapist, and Professor Emeritus. Join us for an enlightening event, Loss and the Quest for Meaning; The Spiritual Arc of Tragic Loss, where Dr. Neimeyer will explain how at the heart of grief is the attempt to reaffirm or rebuild a world of meaning that has been challenged by loss. At this event, we will engage with Dr. Neimeyer and his colleague, Carolyn Ng, PsyD, who will offer insights and guidance in finding hope and healing. We aim to provide a safe space for reflection and growth.

Of particular concern will be the phenomenon of complicated spiritual grief, in which believers struggle with a sense of insecurity, anger and distance in relation to both God and the faith community, as well as disruptions in their spiritual practice.

Viewing bereavement as a spiritual as well as psychological narrative, we will explore the
(1) shattering
(2) retelling
(3) reconstructing
(4) integrating
(5) extending of the survivor’s ongoing life story,

and distinguish between forms of grieving that are adaptive and those that are complicated and prolonged.

Whether you have experienced loss firsthand or wish to understand its effects on others, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and gain valuable perspectives. Together, we will embark on a journey of self-discovery and discover ways to navigate the complexities of life with resilience and purpose.
